Thunderkick provider review: quirky slots from Stockholm
Day of the Dead skeletons, pink elephants, a cartoon cast that never quite behaves. Thunderkick has built that kind of slot since 2012, and its own site says every game gets "a hint of magical madness." The studio sits in Stockholm, stays independent and has been releasing faster than ever in 2026. Three newer games are the ones Thunderkick itself points to: Bass Hunter, Midas Golden Touch: Thunder Pots and Hot Potato Battleground. This Thunderkick provider review covers who is behind the slots and what to check before you play Thunderkick slots for real money. It also explains why the RTP in your casino may be 94% or 92%. The content is intended for readers aged 21+.

An independent studio from Stockholm
About Thunderkick, the short version: a small team in Stockholm began by keeping all development under one roof in 2012 and never gave that up. The history of Thunderkick since then reads like a long run of series. Esqueleto Explosivo, Pink Elephants and Midas Golden Touch keep returning, and the 100th game, 3 Wildos, launched on 22 April 2026. The studio's own post for it toasted the first hundred and "whatever trouble the next hundred brings."
How does a studio keep its handmade feel at that pace? Johan Granberg, Head of Account Management at Thunderkick, answered in an interview with GamblerID:
The studio's Chief Commercial Officer, Svante Sahlström, makes the same case from the business side. In a June 2025 column, he wrote that Thunderkick doesn't outsource a single step of production, from math and art to sound. Here is what that buys the studio:
Thunderkick licenses and safety: what you can check
Start with the paper trail. Two companies sit behind the brand, Thunderkick AB and Thunderkick Malta Ltd, and both are licensed and regulated by Great Britain’s Gambling Commission. Denmark has required a supplier license since 1 January 2025. Thunderkick Malta Ltd has one and is on the Danish Gambling Authority’s list. The studio also works under the MGA in Malta, Spelinspektionen in Sweden and the AGCO in Ontario. Our team checked every one of these licenses in the regulators’ own registers, and all five were valid when this review was prepared. You can still look the studio up yourself. Each regulator keeps a public register.
Thunderkick awards are thin on the ground. Esqueleto Explosivo 3 was shortlisted for Game Music/Soundtrack of the Year in 2025, according to the studio's news page, but the site lists no wins, so GamblerID credits none.
The RTP question: why Thunderkick games show 94% and 92%
Here is the part most Thunderkick pages skip. The studio publishes no average RTP across its portfolio, and its newest Thunderkick slots ship in two versions. Thunderkick's own game documentation lists a 94% variant and a 92% variant for Bass Hunter, Midas Golden Touch: Thunder Pots and Hot Potato Battleground. Some variants may not be available in every market.

Run €1,000 through the 94% version and about €941 comes back in theory. The 92% version returns about €921. Which one loads is the casino's call, and the rules screen shows the Thunderkick RTP of the copy you are actually playing. Older classics were set higher. GamblerID lists Fruit Warp at 97.04%, so a familiar studio name says little about what a 2026 release pays.
Three new Thunderkick slots to start with
Thunderkick's own team points to these three when asked which newer games to look at. All three are high volatility, and each has a round cap, called max exposure, that ends the round at a set multiple of your bet.
Bass Hunter
Bass Hunter came out on 19 August 2026 and it's the easiest of the three to get your head around. It's a 5×3 fishing slot with 10 paylines. Fish carry cash values or jackpots worth 50x to 1,000x, and the Fisherman scoops up every fish on screen when he lands. Three or more scatters give you 10 to 20 free spins. In there, every four Fishermen you collect push the multiplier meter up. RTP is 94.14% and max exposure is 5,000x.

Midas Golden Touch: Thunder Pots
The Midas series gets its Midas Golden Touch: Thunder Pots entry on a 5×3 grid with 15 paylines. Wilds multiply the line they sit on: one Wild doubles it, and five take it to x32. In the bonus, a chest decides how the round plays. Get a blue chest and the Wild multipliers go up. White means sticky respins. Red is different - it drops extra Wilds onto reels 2 to 4. The game runs at 94.22% RTP and caps a round at 10,100x. If you'd rather have one clear idea than a pile of features, this is the one to try.

Hot Potato Battleground
ot Potato Battleground is the sequel to Hot Potato, played on a 7×7 cluster-pays grid. Wins spawn exploding Wilds that wipe out a 3×3 or 5×5 area, or a full row and column. The multiplier grid starts at x2 and can go as high as x128. About one spin in four pays (hit frequency 25.06%), which makes it the busiest of the three. It runs at 94.23% RTP with a 10,000x max exposure.

Older favorites are worth a look as well: Bjorn, Midas Golden Touch, and Esqueleto Explosivo 2 are all on GamblerIDwith demos.
Thunderkick free demo: what to test first
You can play Thunderkick slots free on this site with no deposit. Use the Thunderkick free demo for three checks on any of the Thunderkick slots. First, open the rules and note the RTP variant, because it tells you what a casino is likely to run. Second, count how often a spin pays: 13% hit frequency in Bass Hunter feels very different from 25% in Hot Potato Battleground. Third, try the Bet+ options if the demo offers them (more on those further down) and compare what you pay per spin with what you actually get. The full list of studios with demos sits on our Top Providers page.

Bet+ and Feature Buy: what Thunderkick sells beside free spins
Most new Thunderkick slots come with paid bonus shortcuts. Feature Buy jumps straight into the bonus. In Bass Hunter it costs 80x your bet (RTP 94.30%), or 250x for Hunter Spins (94.50%). For Hot Potato Battleground it's 100x (94.50%), and Thunder Pots lets you spend 50x, 100x or 250x depending on how many chests you want. Bet+ modes work the other way around: they raise your chance of a bonus for a higher spin price. Bass Hunter's Bonus Boost doubles the chance at 1.5x the bet (RTP 94.16%), and Bonus Boost Plus makes it five times as likely at 3x (94.17%).
One pattern is worth knowing. Every mode's RTP sits within half a point of the base game, so buying doesn't change what the game returns. It changes how fast you pay for it. Some markets switch these options off completely, so don't be surprised if they're missing.
How to pace a session on high-volatility Thunderkick slots
All three new releases are high volatility, and that decides how to size a session. At a €1 bet, Bass Hunter pays on about one spin in eight, so a quiet stretch of 30 spins is normal. Keep the bet small against your balance so the bonus has room to arrive. Check the cap too: a €1 bet in Bass Hunter can't return more than €5,000 in one round. More titles with this profile live in our High Volatility Slots section.
Expert tip from Daniel Borg: check the RTP on the game's rules screen before you commit to a casino. Seeing 92%? Find an operator running the 94% version instead. Switching is free, and over €1,000 of play it's worth about €20.
Our verdict
Personality is the reason to pick Thunderkick, and checking the numbers is the price. The independence holds up: every game is still built in-house. Its catalog is also easy to recognize. The three newer games give a clear way in: Bass Hunter for simplicity, Thunder Pots for the Wild multipliers and Hot Potato Battleground for frequent wins. If you want one first spin, start there.
The catch is the RTP. A 94% game is not a bad game. A 92% copy of it is a worse deal, and you don't pick the copy. The casino does. So read the rules screen and try the demo first. Then choose an operator from the list above. Back to GamblerID for more provider reviews.
