Above reels 2, 3, 4, and 5, you'll find progress bars with 3 steps, each linked to one of the four Doggie symbols in the game. Whenever a Diamond Wild symbol lands, it fills one step on the progress bar above that reel. Once a bar is completely filled, the corresponding Doggie symbol transforms into a Wild. However, keep in mind that all filled progress bars reset on the next spin.

If a progress bar is filled but no Doggie Wilds contribute to a winning combination, a re-spin is triggered. During re-spins, all Doggie Wilds and Diamond Wilds remain locked in place. The re-spins continue until at least one Doggie Wild helps form a winning combination.

Diamond Wilds can also land during re-spins, and just like before, they'll stay locked in place and continue filling progress bars. If another progress bar is completed during a re-spin, its corresponding Doggie symbol also turns into a Wild. Additionally, landing a Diamond Wild on a reel where the progress bar is already full increases the multiplier for that Doggie Wild by 1. These multipliers apply to all wins involving that Wild.

Landing 3 Scatter symbols triggers 10 Free Spins, carrying over any progress you've made on the Doggie symbols. Filling a progress bar during Free Spins turns the corresponding Doggie symbol into a Wild for the remainder of the bonus round. However, filled progress bars do not carry over back to the base game. As before, landing a Diamond Wild on a reel with a full progress bar boosts that Doggie Wild multiplier by 1.

Verdict

To my surprise, the features work quite well and complement each other nicely. While increasing the Wild multipliers in the base game can be a challenge, things take a turn in Free Spins. That's because the progress on Doggie symbols doesn't reset, so it's all up to your luck. Sure, the game could use an option to win extra spins, but it is what it is. On the bright side, the max multiplier of x10,000 is definitely a highlight. Overall, I'd say Diamond Doggies delivers exactly what you'd expect, a solid mid-tier slot with decent potential.
